Global Mall

• How did it feel to have more or less money than other people in the class?
It fell unfair because all people were the same, and because of money, we had to be separate each other. Poor people were not different, they just have no luck. And I think it’s a kind of same in the world. We are all equal, but because of money, we are differentiate
How did it feel to see what you could and could not afford at the Global Mall? It feel strange, to choose between all of those thing that we mostly need to live, and try to fix what was the most important (even if we need mostly all of them) and what was not important at least to survive.
• How many of you could not afford education? What would your lives be like if you could not go to school?
Personally, I had $1000, so I could have a good education, but it was not my priority. I had to use my money to eat, drink, ext. But I think if child doesn’t go to school, because of their parent’s economic problem, they’ll stay poor all of their life. Because they can’t find a job without education.
• How would it feel to have to choose between food and health care?
It feel really difficult, and also embarrassing. Because in class, it was just a game, but we knew that was real. We knew that some people have to choose between food, drink, health care.
• How many of you have ever been very sick or gone to a hospital or had friends and family who have? What would your life be like now if you had been unable to get medical care?
I have already been on the hospital, and I think if I couldn’t go to the hospital, my problem could being worse.
• What were the impacts caused by people with fewer Global Mall Dollars, and what were the impacts caused by people with more Global Mall Dollars?• Discuss the fact that roughly one-fifth of all people worldwide survive on
less than $1 (U.S.) a day – how does this limit their choices, and what are the environmental, social, and global security implications of this?
Poor people make poor environmental impact, because they don’t use coil, oil ext... But they need to go to hospital because they’re often sick. Wealth people make more environmental damages because they use coil, oil, electricity ext...but they doesn’t make too much global impact.
• When you were choosing what to buy, did you think about the environmental impact? For those of you in the lowest income range, did you have a choice about the environmental impact you produced? If not, how did it feel to
not have a choice?
Mostly, I have some choice, but I needed too much thing to think about environment. It feel sad, but I didn’t have choice, I had to choose the things that will help e to survive.

Eve Ensler

What is this interview about? The interview of Eve Ensler is about the violence against woman and girls, and also about her new book, I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World.
How is Eve Ensler being a global citizen? What is she doing to make a difference in the world (give examples)? She is going around the world, to listen and help woman and girls, and she wrote a book to make us know the real life of some girl.
Give one example of how girls can end up in harmful situations because of societal pressures "to please" others. When girls want to become a model, and there have a normal weight, but people thinks they are too fat, so they tell to them they have to loss fat, so models become anorexic and unhealthy thin.
What do you think are the connections between The Story of Stuff and Eve Ensler's story about the girl in the factory making Barbie doll heads? This story refer about the “production”. Some part of China are really poor, so they are considered as third world. So big companies like Barbie, extract in China and then, build factories with girls who are working in it, for a few money.

Avatar

1.The story in Avatar is really based on the age old story of colonization. Describe why Jake's colleagues want to destroy the tree the Navi live in. Do they realize that destroying the tree essentially destroys the Navi's habitat? Why or why not?
Jake’s colleague want to destroy the tree where Navi live just because of one thing: money. There is a really expensive rock in it, and they want to sell it. Only for this little things (money) people can kill without pity, and destroy the environment. I think they realize they will destroy Navi’s habitat, but they don’t care. They only think of themselves.
2.Describe a similar conflict from history.
This story remember me the discovery of America. Native american where really smart, advanced, and powerful. But they did not have strong arm to fight. And then, when European came to America, they kill them, steal their wealth and their land.
3.Describe a similar conflict that is happening in the world today.
Some people does not want to realize that we CAN’T live without all the things made by the Earth. All of those thing that surround us, are necessary to human survive. Trees give us oxygen, animals give us food, ocean give us rain, and then water to drink, we need them. And some people think they can polluting our Earth. Only for one reason, always the same, money. That exactly the same as Avatar, but this time, we kill us.

Ceramic field trip summary

With my school, we went a ceramic workshop. First, they explain to us, how they use their ceramic (mostly, it was used to contain the wine). Also, we immediately notice that owl was the mascot of the site. We continue our visit, and we arrived in front of a giant kiln. This kiln was impressing. I think we could put 50 persons in it. Also, they explain to us how this work was hard. There is many step, first you have to take the clay (the main material of pottery) and then you have to work on it. You can also paint it. In the last step, you have to put it on the kiln for many hour. At the end of our trip, they invite us to discover their job; we could make anything we want in clay. Sure, we had a lot of creativity... I think it was a really good trip, and a learn a lot about ceramic.

What does a good citizen looks like?

Citizens are people who are a part of many communities like family, school, city, country, world... Without citizens, there aren’t communities. A citizen has rights (ex. he can share his ideas). But also, a citizen has duties and responsibilities. If he does not do his duties or responsibilities there are some consequences. For example, in a family, each person has to clean the house, and if they don’t do it, the house is dirty. A citizen can be native or naturalized. Native means when people are born in the community. Naturalized means when people become a citizen of a community where they are not was born, by a special process. A good citizen crosses social boundaries and doesn’t care about difference in people. It’s a person you can trust, and who considers the world’s problems seriously.

A good citizen of school has duties (ex.homework). He must listen and respect others. He also crosses social boundaries. A social boundary is an invisible wall that divides people because of difference. Language, culture, hobbies, ideas, opinions are some examples of social boundaries. Social boundaries are the cause of cliques. Cliques are group of people who stay together because of a common point and don’t easily let other in. Cliques make people ignorant. Because they stay with their own group, and don’t mix with other groups with other ideas. A good citizen of a school is open minded. He doesn’t care about difference (ex. race). He does not have prejudice . Prejudice is a opinion, prejudgement or attitude about a group of people. Also, he doesn’t have bias. Bias is caused by fear or ignorance. When people are in a clique, they are ignorant and then have prejudice and bias.

A good citizen of a country doesn’t stereotype and discriminate. A stereotype is an exaggerated belief, image or distorted ideas about a person or a group. Stereotype are based on mass media (ex. T.V, news paper), culture, history etc. Scientists made a experiment that proved children learn stereotypes at 3 years old. It’s because children listen to what people say and also watch T.V. They think what they hear is a good thing. Discrimination is the ill-treatment of a person because of group membership. A good citizen must fight prejudice and discrimination. One example of a person who crosses social boundaries was Gandhi. A good citizen must teach his children they must listen to other ideas and also learn other cultures. They need to be open minded if they want to become good citizens. Psychologist at Harvard created Project Implicit. It’s a test that measures unconscious bias. You can do this test, and try to undo your own unconscious bias.

A good citizen of the world takes a part in Global debates. He share his ideas with others, to tries to find solution to Global warming. And then, he can learn new ideas and solution. I think it’s not too late to change our life style. One person cannot change the world, nut 6 million people can change it. Global warming is the Earth temperature increasing. It’s because the extra CO2 (cause by human) stay on the Earth because of green house effect. There will be a lot of effect if we don’t try to stop pollution. First, they will be no work, then immigration. Also, there will be no rain, then no crops, then no food, and then some big famine in the world. Also the height of the sea will increase and cover all islands like Taiwan. Also Antarctica will melt, and lots of animals like polar bear will disappear. But we can try to change that. We can stop polluting the world (ex. electric or solar car) We can teach children how the Earth is important because children are our future. We can make communities action like cleaning the beach.

A good citizen is a person who tries to make his world better.

THE END :D

Haiti_Life

What is the story about?

The story “life” is about a pregnant woman who will have her baby. The midwife can’t help her so she have to go to the hospital. She is going to the hospital, but the car was out of gas. The men ask help, because if he doesn’t drive the woman, her and the baby will die. Then, people come to help us, and they push the car to the hospital. This story show the country need help and money from other country. If the man had money, he could buy gas, and then the woman could have her baby quickly. Also, the country need some good university, to form people like midwife to be qualified for such cases. We need to care about what happening in Haiti because it can happen the same thing in Taiwan, and people will need help. Also, some people are die, we can’t do anything for them, but some people, man, woman and children who are alive, wait for help, they wait for a people found them below their house. They are humans, and we can’t leave them die like that. All of citizen can give money, or go to Haiti, to help people. They need water, food, clothing and help. This story show that if people help other, we can save life.
